La 24 entrega de los Critics Choice Awards, organizados en la BFCA (Broadcast Film Critics Association) y la BTJA (Broadcast Television Journalists Association), se tomaron su tiempo para premiar a lo mejor del cine y la televisión en una velada histórica para México, pues por primera vez un mexicano, Alfonso Cuarón, se llevó el más aclamado reconocimiento de esta gala: el premio a Mejor Película.

Esta premiación sirve como antesala de la gala más prestigiosa del cine hollywoodense, los Oscar. Desde hace 11 años también ha ayudado a predecir quién se lleva las más altas categorías del mayor reconocimiento de cine. Es por ello que la prensa y cinéfilos ya posicionan a Roma como un claro candidato a una estatuilla dorada.
